Research Center for Freshwater Fisheries deals with studies on
1) ecosystems of river and lakes, and the freshwater organisms and their habitats to maintain and enhance fishery resources, and
2) the physiological characteristics of freshwater fishes such as ayu and trout.

Studies on 1) suitable habitats for major freshwater fishes such as ayu and trout, and 2) environmental remediation technologies such as spawning bed development for deteriorated fishery grounds. Establishment of the methods of comprehensive resource management for released and wild fish through ecological investigation of fishery resources such as ayu, char, trout, crucian carp and eel, and by elucidation of their growth and survival process (char: top left corner).
