Research objectives

Coastal fisheries and aquaculture division conducts research on coastal ecosystem, physiology and ecology of biological resources and provides information that addresses fisheries resource management issues. Our research contributes to sustainable utilization and comprehensive management of biological resources in coastal waters under the influence of Kuroshio.

Coastal Ecosystem Section
Coastal ecosystem section conducts research on ecosystem of rocky and sandy habitats, aiming at the increase of the resource biomass and determination of biologically allowable catches.

Ecophysiology Section
Ecophysiology section studies the mechanism of growth, development and reproduction of fish resources, as well as biological interactions in coastal ecosystem.

Stock Enhancement Section
Stock enhancement section deals with ecological studies of fisheries resources in Kuroshio coastal region in an attempt to increase the resource biomass.
